Principal Hunt "WINS" lawsuit!

On March 24, 2010, Principal Hunt and his employer, The Public Schools of Robeson County(PSRC), met in Benson, North Carolina. The reason for doing so was because Mr. Hunt filed a lawsuit against his employer so that he might receive Workers Compensation as he believed the shooting to be work related. Principal Hunt filed for compensation in April of 2009 after the shooting but his claim was DENIED by his employer! His employer claimed they were in no way liable for any compensation because he was on his way to work when he was shot. Therefore, Principal Hunt found it necessary to take this act of injustice to the North Carolina Industrial Commission. During the pretrial discovery it was confirmed that Principal Hunt's employer did pay him a travel allowance twice a year as part of his salary for services rendered in connection with his role as principal. The matter was heard before Mr. Philip A. Baddour, III, Deputy Commissioner for the North Carolina Industrial Commission.

Read the FACTS of the case carefully and you will see that there have been deliberate smoke screens and mirrors introduced by the employer to try and muddy the case. For instance, the attempt to introduce a document into evidence that had never been seen before by Principal Hunt. Additionally, the school system tried to "switch" or "alter" his contract language during the hearing. Read it for yourself! Moreover, a "Revised" contract was developed by his employer AFTER the filing of his Workers Compensation claim. Of course, the existance of this newly revised contract was denied by the school system during the trial on March 24, 2010!

  1. Way go Mr. Hunt! That school system that denied your claim should be ashamed of themselves. Especially, the superintendent! No wonder they are in such terrible shape with leadership like that!!!

  4. Good for you Principal Hunt! However, this will in no way make up for the wrong that was done to you. But at least it will help.

God bless you Principal Hunt! I have been praying for you and your family. My son went to Fairmont Middle while you were principal there. I went to several of your PTA meetings. You were the best principal at that school!

  6. This is great news Principal Hunt. I am certainly glad to hear that your worker's comp case has been settled. This will at least help with the undue pain that you and your family have been subjected to after this heinous act. Please accept our best wishes and we hope that your assailant is brought to swift justice.

  8. I work for the school system that did this to Principal Hunt. The school central office staff is a bully. They act like the Gestapo or some other group that rule by scare tactics. They have principals in the county scared to death to say anything contrary to what the central office says but NOT Principal Hunt. Principal Hunt stood up to them on several issues and won his argument each time. They did not like him because he would not submit to them like a puppet. This is coming from someone that knows what they are talking about because I worked beside him and beside the central office. Principal Hunt would make a fantastic superintendent. What we need in this school system is integrity and GOD! Principal Hunt has them both!!

  9. This man should be allowed to receive his award without any further delay from the state and his pathetic employer. Why continue to punish the just and reward the unjust. The day of reckoning is soon coming and woe to you that have dealt unjustly by this man and his family.

  10. Just finished reading the hearing document. It is obvious the school system was wrong in denying Principal Hunt his claim. They will lose again at the appeal and we the tax payers will have to foot the bill. God bless you Principal Hunt. I am sorry that you have to go through this madness. Your school system and employers have treated you and your family terribly. I hope they catch the punks that did this soon!

  12. I am so glad to hear that you won. It is terrible that you had to fight your own employer to get help. Looks like they should have been trying to help you and your family through this. Don't worry about the appeal. You have the victory. Truth is on your side as well as the Law!
